Samsung plasma – No black level changes with firmware T-VALDEUC-2004.0
Some PS63C7000/C8000/C77X0 owners have reported improved 50Hz black levels (and 24Hz with Cinema Smooth).
I did the firmware update just a few days ago from T-VALDEUC-2001.0 to T-VALDEUC-2004.0 (european firmwares) and there was no change in the black level.
Although I don’t have a picture of it the black level with Cinema Smooth “on” is the same as at 50Hz.
I honestly don’t think Samsung will fix the problem (their firmware updates has only contained small and simple bug fixes and it seems to be hardware related), but I do hope I’m wrong 
EDIT: Just updated to the newly released 3000.6 firmware. No changes in black level on this either.

The firmwares doesn’t change the way the settings are “applied” to the picture (at least not with the current firmware updates available).

If samsung publish release notes/change logs with the new FWs every time, all these doubts and “subjective” differences about PQ, Black, Sharpness, etc. disappears.

They usually publish the changelog for each firmware on the uk site – http://www.samsung.co.uk. Although for the last two firmware’s the changelog has not been updated.

Nope, haven’t updated yet (haven’t had a reason) – I’ll do an update post hopefully in a few weeks doing a little more technical in-depth review with the experiences I’ve gathered (and testing some of the things people wanted me to test).

I would advise against an upgrade to 3xxx.x – its making 3d crosstalk much worse in my view. people are hacking the tv to downgrade back to 1016. Samsung wtf are you doing?
